Ford’s Q2 Sales Surge Across Trucks, Hybrids, and EVs
Ford Motor Company continues to make waves in the automotive market with its robust and diverse lineup of vehicles, as evidenced by impressive second-quarter sales across various segments including trucks, vans, hybrid and electric vehicles, and Lincoln models. Ford has maintained its position as the world’s leading manufacturer of pickup trucks, with its F-Series trucks continuing to dominate the American market. In the first half of the year, the F-Series outsold its nearest competitors, the Silverado and Ram, by substantial margins, with sales reaching 199,463 in Q2 alone—a 30 percent increase from Q1. The Maverick and Maverick Hybrid also set new records, cementing their status as the top-selling hybrid trucks in the U.S.
Ford’s Transit vans have also seen remarkable success, setting a new first-half sales record. The company’s SUV lineup broke previous records, with the first half of 2024 surpassing the peak set in 2017. Ford’s innovative software and service offerings, such as BlueCruise hands-free highway driving, the Ford Pro Intelligence software platform, and remote vehicle servicing options, continue to resonate strongly with customers. Andrew Frick, president of Ford Blue, emphasized the brand’s appeal across various customer segments, from urban drivers seeking the versatility of the Maverick to businesses relying on Transit vans for their operations.
Overall vehicle sales for Ford in the second quarter increased by 1 percent year-over-year, with total truck sales (including pickups and vans) climbing by 5 percent compared to 2023. This represents Ford’s best Q2 truck sales performance since 2019. Production of key models like the F-150, Ranger, and the new Lincoln Nautilus is scaling up, with more exciting new vehicles like the Ford Explorer, Lincoln Aviator, Mustang Mach-E Rally, and extended-range E-Transit on the horizon.
Ford’s hybrid vehicle sales have surged, with a 56 percent increase in Q2, totaling 53,822 units—a new quarterly record. The Maverick, in particular, has driven this growth, with 40,420 units sold in the first half of the year, attracting a significant number of new customers from other brands. The F-150 Hybrid has also contributed to this success, with sales up 38 percent, totaling 33,674 units in the first half of the year. The F-150 Hybrid’s growing popularity helped boost overall Ford truck sales by 5 percent for the quarter.
In the electric vehicle (EV) segment, Ford has seen a 61 percent increase in sales in Q2, with 23,957 units sold, contributing to a 72 percent increase for the year. With 44,180 EVs sold in the first half of the year, Ford is the second-largest EV brand in the U.S., trailing only Tesla. The Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning have been particularly successful, drawing customers from other brands and achieving significant year-over-year sales increases. The E-Transit, Ford’s electric van, also posted its best quarterly sales since its debut, with first-half sales more than doubling compared to 2023.
Ford’s commercial van segment continues to lead the market, with the Transit and E-Series accounting for half of the full-size commercial van segment in Q2. The Transit, now in its 10th year, achieved a record start with sales of 82,164 units in the first half of the year, up 28 percent. The Ford Pro Intelligence software platform has seen a substantial increase in subscriptions, growing by approximately 33 percent year-over-year.
Ford’s SUV lineup also posted a record first half, with sales of 406,467 units, a 3 percent increase. The Explorer led the way with sales of 104,803 units, maintaining its status as America’s best-selling three-row SUV. Other models, such as the Escape and Expedition, also saw significant sales increases.
Lincoln’s sales surged in Q2, driven by the strong performance of the all-new Lincoln Nautilus. Overall, Lincoln sales increased by 19 percent, with the Nautilus hybrid representing a significant portion of these sales. The Lincoln Corsair and Aviator also posted impressive gains, with the latter seeing a 90 percent increase in sales. The Nautilus’s new panoramic screen, part of the Lincoln Digital Experience, received high praise, earning a spot on Wards Ten Best Interior and UX list.
Remote service offerings from Ford and Lincoln have seen rapid growth, with a 175 percent increase in appointments compared to the same period in 2023. These services, which include remote vehicle servicing and Pickup & Delivery, have provided customers with convenient, time-saving solutions, contributing to Ford’s continued success and customer satisfaction.
